Dawei

The capital of Tanintharyi Region, Dawei, is a tropical seaside city, dotted with famous historical pagodas and can be accessed by all means of transportation.

Getting to Dawei

There are daily flights from Yangon to Dawei airport. There are daily express buses from Yangon to Dawei. Htee Khee, a checkpoint on the Myanmar-Thailand border, is about 160 km east of Dawei and was inaugurated in 2013 as an international gateway.

Going around Dawei

Shwe Mokhti Pagoda is one of the revered pagodas and many local people pay homage there. This pagoda is believed to have been built over 600 years ago and is located a few kilometers south of Dawei.

Shwe Tha Lyaung Daw Mu buddha statue (74m long and 21m high) is situated at the edge of Dawei and is about 5 km from the central Strand Road market. It was completed in 1931.

Maung Ma Kan Beach is situated in a beautiful setting of hills that rise up from the shoreline and 19 km from the Dawei city. A half an hour walk down the beach will take visitors to a lovely fishing village with small boats nestled in its harbour.
